Rachel Pick’s natural curiosities about culture making and stories take various forms from portrait to documentary and editorial photography. With a liberal arts degree in Communications, English and Art, she originally intended pursue photojournalism and journalism but took a 10 year detour into graphic design. This design experience informs her image making now. She is particularly interested in finding connection and empowering her subjects and sees photo making as a collaborative process. Her images convey a sense of intimacy that comes from welcoming a photo subject into the art of making images and establishing a sense of trust. She is most interested in photo work that takes her into the worlds of music, art and design, and social change.
Rachel is experienced directing and leading small or large crews on shoots, working with producers, agencies and editorial clients. She fosters a positive environment on sets and with teams, always looking to make better work than yesterday. So far, she’s visited seven of Canada's 10 provinces and territories and traveled in Europe, Asia, Africa, the USA and Australia. Rachel is based in Vancouver, BC but holds a valid USA 01 Visa for easy travel and is forever grateful for fresh water and proximity to the ocean. She lives in a 120 year old house with a musician husband and two young children. She is grateful to live and work on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
